Each painting is a conversation. More accurately, multiple conversations: between artist and subject, artist and medium, painting and observer--conversations across time and space. My participation provides me with an excuse and an opportunity to slow down, to look, to see. And ultimately, to share. Not just to share a beautiful landscape or cityscape, but to explain why it gave me pause. To highlight the twisting contortion of a tree, the play of light on a mountain, the improbable explosion of colors in a bouquet of flowers.
I am inspired mostly by nature, and beyond encapsulating my own experiences, my work argues that the beautiful places that sustain us are important and worth preserving.
I have studied art my whole life, from casual after-school art lessons in elementary school to college-level studio courses at the Art Institute of Boston and at Harvard University, where I received my BA in History of Art and Architecture in 2010.
After graduating, I spent a summer as a Forest Service Ranger in Sequoia National Forest, spending all my free time hiking, painting, and selling art on the side of the road. My art sales funded a roadtrip around 20 National Parks--many works from that trip are shown in the Shop and Gallery sections. These experiences crystallized my love of painting, and creating art is now an integral part of how I see and understand the world.
In 2017, my first illustrated book, Charlie on the M.T.A.: Did He Ever Return? was published by Applewood Books. The project was a labor of love, and exposed me to a unique chapter of Boston's history and to the architecture of the city I call home. I look forward to continuing to grow as both an artist and illustrator, and to continuing to share my work on Etsy and on this site.
